Search 'cheap private jet' and you will find two kinds of content: fantasy listicles promising $500 seats, and brokers insisting nothing real exists below $15,000. Both are wrong. Genuine private flights below $5,000 for the whole aircraft appear every week - but only in specific corners of the market, and knowing which corners is the entire game.

Where sub-$5,000 flights actually live

• Short-haul empty legs on light jets. This is the heartland. A legitimate quote at this level covers the aircraft, crew, and fuel for the stated route. Confirm what else applies before comparing two prices: federal excise tax and segment fees, deicing in winter, and catering beyond the standard snack basket can move the total. The traps to skip

• Per-seat teasers. A '$1,200 private flight' that turns out to be one seat on a semi-scheduled shuttle is a different product - fine, but not a private aircraft. Prices here are for the whole plane.
